After my stepfather passed away, my mother asked me to sell his house

After my stepfather passed away, my mother asked me to sell his house. It was a beautiful home, but it needed some work. The house was just a block from the beach in the San Diego area, so it was very valuable. I knew developers would want to buy it, likely to tear it down and build several homes.

The thought of that lovely house being destroyed bothered me, so I refused an offer of just under 3 million from one of these developers, even though our real estate agent said it was the best offer we would get.

A week later, we received an offer that was $150,000 higher from a family who wanted to use it as their home. I was happy to accept their offer. They spent another million fixing it up, and now it’s one of the nicest homes in the town. I’m so glad the house still stands, and it makes me happy to know it’s a family home.
