A grenade explosion and 27 gunshots, 11 of which were absorbed by his armor and 16 of which hit his arms, legs, and abdomen, were not enough to stop Navy SEAL Mike Day, who, after killing three Al Qaeda militants in a firefight inside a room, managed to walk – without any help – to a rescue helicopter and survive.

Day went into cardiac arrest three times during the rescue flight. He was hospitalized for 16 days and himself stated that it took him two years to fully recover from his wounds.

Today, Day acts as a spokesperson for wounded soldiers, has participated in a 70.3 Ironman race, and has raised over $88,075 for the Brain Treatment Foundation.
