Around noon today, an Investigator from the Attorney General’s Office noticed a car swerving a lot on I-65 near exit 181. The Investigator tried to pull the car over, but the driver kept going. Fortunately, an Alabama State Trooper arrived to help, and they were able to stop the car on AL 14 near Browns Road. It turned out that the driver was having a diabetic episode.
What’s really amazing is that there was a 10-year-old child in the car who had taken control of the steering wheel. The child safely steered the car and even hit the brakes to stop it, possibly saving the driver’s life, their own, and everyone else on the road.
Once emergency workers arrived, the Trooper gave the driver some food to help with the episode. The driver was taken to the hospital, and the Trooper took the child to a nearby fast food place for a meal while waiting for family to arrive. A big thank you to Millbrook Police and Fire Rescue for their help!
Great job to everyone involved!
