Be a Neighbor, Not a Watchdog ❤️
I just read a post where a neighbor was upset about a yard that used to be well-kept but had recently been left untrimmed. Instead of asking what might be wrong, many people jumped straight to saying it should be reported to the city.
Can I ask you to consider something different? If you notice an overgrown yard in your neighborhood, go knock on the door and check in.
Last year, my mother-in-law’s yard, which was always perfectly maintained, went weeks without being touched. But she wasn’t being careless—she was inside caring for her husband, who was dying of cancer.
I’ll never forget when a few young men from her church showed up with trailers and riding mowers and got to work. It took a village to help her through that difficult time, and while she may not remember every single person who helped, she felt their kindness.
Maybe your neighbor has something far more important to deal with than cutting the grass. Maybe they just need a little help. Let’s not lose the ability to be neighborly.
