Yesterday, I bought my son, Adam, a brand-new coat. Snow was coming, and his old coat from last year was way too small—it barely covered his wrists! So, he needed a new one. He wore it to school for the first time today.
When I picked him up, his sister, Jozlynn, said, “That kid is wearing Adam’s coat.” I thought she meant another kid just had the same coat, so I didn’t think much of it.
Later, while I was giving my youngest a bath, Jozlynn brought it up again. She said a boy had Adam’s coat because Adam had given it to him.
I asked Adam what coat he gave away and why. His answer melted my heart:
“My friend didn’t have a warm coat, so he couldn’t go outside today. I had my old coat in my locker—it’s too small for me, but it fit him. So, I gave it to him so he could play. I told him to keep it because he had to ride the bus home, and I didn’t want him to be cold.”
As a parent, there are times I wonder if we’re doing things right. But moments like this remind me that we are.
I am so proud of my little guy for thinking of his friend and making sure he stayed warm.
Adam had only gotten his new coat the night before. The weather changes fast, and sometimes kids don’t have what they need. This isn’t about blaming anyone—it’s about celebrating how our kids are taking care of each other! 💙💚💜💛
