Eight years ago today, my son Iver was born.

My wife, Robyn, had been on life support for weeks, from the 22nd to the 28th week of her pregnancy. Her brain had stopped working, but her body and heart kept Iver alive. On this day, she was taken off life support.

The five hours between meeting Iver and saying goodbye to Robyn were the hardest of my life. I lost my wife, but I was also given the gift of becoming a father to my little miracle.

Iver was born weighing just 2lbs 13oz, and we spent the next 12 weeks in the NICU before I was able to bring him home.

Now, Iver is 8 years old. He’s incredibly smart, funny, caring, outgoing, loving, thoughtful, adventurous, and kind. I’m so thankful for every day with him and for the gift of being his dad.

Happy birthday, Iver!
