Everyone, I have to share this story. A man came into my yard a couple of hours ago and offered to cut my grass for a certain price. I didn’t have enough money to pay for it today, so I asked him to come back in a week.
A few minutes later, I heard a loud noise outside. I opened the door and saw that he was cutting my grass. I ran outside and told him to stop, but he shook his head and kept going. He told me that he saw my kids playing in the yard and was worried about snakes in the tall grass that could bite them.
I told him again to stop because I couldn’t pay him. He said he didn’t need to be paid. He has grandchildren and hoped that someone would look out for them the same way.
I was brought to tears. I hugged him, and we talked about the struggles we’ve both faced in life. He told me this is the kind of thing the news never reports. He said the news doesn’t show the black neighbor helping the white neighbor because it doesn’t fit their story. I told him he has a good heart and wished more people were like him.
We hugged again, and now it’s dark, and he’s still out there cutting my grass. I’m so grateful to have him as a new friend.
His name is Johnny, and he lives in Taylors, South Carolina. He cut my grass for free because he was worried about my kids. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves.
