Have you ever walked into your office and noticed a sound that you thought was suspicious? What happened?

I worked in Two World Trade Center for 5 years—on the 102nd and the 103rd floors.

Did I ever hear a noise in my office that I thought was suspicious? Daily. The WTC was a kvetching building. (Kvetch is Yiddish). The building groaned, moaned, sighed and creaked. It also swayed, wobbled, shook and undulated. If there was any wind, that building was like my grandma—not too steady on her pins and complaining vigorously.

After a while, you just tuned it out and went about your business. But I can remember visitors asking, “Was this normal?” I used to say it was better than the alternative—the building breaking in two.

I had no idea that my sarcasm was prescient. RIP 2WTC.
