I had just settled into bed when my cat burst into my room, meowing and racing around like a maniac. I initially thought he was just being a little dramatic about wanting food, but I had never seen him this frantic before. I decided to follow him to the kitchen to fill his food bowl, hoping it would calm him down so I could get some sleep.
However, instead of stopping at his food bowl, he dashed straight to my office, looking back occasionally to ensure I was following him. When I arrived, I discovered that the circuit breaker panel was sparking and suddenly caught fire. Thanks to my cat’s urgent behavior, I was able to turn off the main breaker and extinguish the fire before it could spread.
If I had been asleep when it ignited, I likely wouldn’t have survived, and neither would my cat. I’m a very deep sleeper; I once slept through a hotel fire alarm, which thankfully turned out to be a false alarm.
