I was standing in line at the McDonald’s

“I was standing in line at the McDonald’s (Pilot Truck Stop) in Cartersville, GA placing my order, when this deputy and a man (who appeared to be homeless), walked in and got in line behind me. After I ordered, I stepped back and watched the homeless man place his order. The deputy then asked if he wanted anything for later, as well. The man declined. The deputy then paid for the man’s meal, told him to, ‘Have a good day and be safe!’ and then proceeded to leave. To make sure I had seen everything correctly, I stopped the deputy and asked, ‘Did you just pay for that man’s meal?’ ‘Yes’, he replied modestly, as if it were just another Thursday morning to him. I shook his hand and told him, ‘Thank you!’ and watched him leave.

To the deputy, it was Thursday morning, nothing moreā€”just another day on duty. To the man, you could see the gratitude in his eyes. To him, it was another day to get by, to survive… and to hope for the kindness of a stranger. Today, that kind stranger was a deputy with the Bartow County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office. I don’t know who he was, but I thank him for his random act of kindness, and for being a fine example of a good person. Somehow, I don’t think that random act of kindness was very random at all. I feel that, in his case, it was just Thursday… another day to serve the needs of others.

Thank you again, Sir.”
