Last year, 33-year-old Jesse Whitten and his wife adopted a little girl. Normally, this wouldn’t make the news, but their story is special. Jesse works for the Santa Rosa Police Department in California, where he meets many people while on patrol. One day, he met a homeless woman who was pregnant and struggling with a drug addiction. Later, Jesse took his wife, Ashley, to meet the woman. They both offered to help her by taking her to a rehab center.
The woman saw how kind and caring they were, and that’s when she asked if they would adopt her baby. The couple already had three young daughters, so they needed to think carefully. On February 9, the woman gave birth to a baby girl named Harlow. The hospital asked if she wanted to put the baby into foster care, but the woman said no. Instead, she asked them to call Officer Whitten and his wife. So, they did. On August 30, the Whittens officially became Harlow’s parents.
Ashley explained that Harlow’s mom wanted the best life for her daughter, but because of her own struggles, she couldn’t give that to her. But after seeing how Jesse treated her, she knew she could trust him. That trust will help Harlow grow up with love and care for the rest of her life.
