Marilyn Monroe got tired of how Hollywood treated her, so she moved to New York to study acting with Lee and Paula Strasberg. She became close to them and wanted some distance from Hollywood.
While in New York, she did a photo shoot with a Life magazine photographer named Sam Shaw. Sam asked her to show some acting on the spot. Marilyn took a newspaper, sat on a bench, and pretended to read. Next to her, a young couple was so focused on their conversation that they didn’t even notice her.
Later, Marilyn shared that the man was trying to convince the woman to marry him. She told him she would say yes if he stopped his bookie business. The couple didn’t notice Marilyn sitting next to them at all.
