On August 28, 1969, aerospace engineer Judith Love Cohen solved a crucial mathematical problem for NASA, just before giving birth.

For the Apollo 13 mission, flight controllers had set out to create a system that would act as a “lifeboat” in case the main system failed. She was one of the engineers working on the project.

While in the lab, she went into labor and went to the hospital, but took a printout of the problem she was working on with her. Later, her boss called to tell her she had solved it, just before giving birth to her fourth child.

A few months later, the system she had designed saved the crew of Apollo 13 after a mid-flight incident.

His son grew up to become the famous actor Jack Black, and it is from this last fact that his story is known.
