On February 27, she would have turned 7. I rescued her when she was just 2 days old. She had been released a few times but always returned home. She even came back to give birth to her babies. Watching her deliver and raise her kits was one of the most incredible experiences of my life as a rehabber. She was a true fighter—she survived distemper, poisoning, and several attacks in the wild. The distemper left her with neurological issues, and she was eventually deemed non-releasable. For nearly 5 years, she’s been by my side. We’ve been inseparable; she relied on me as much as I relied on her. The bond we shared was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.
On her last night, NAWTY fell asleep on my chest. When I woke up, she was still there, looking up at me, licking my chin once, taking a few deep breaths, and then she was gone. My heart aches deeply, and I feel so lost without her. She was my soulmate, and words can’t express how much I loved her. Thank you for letting me share this with you, and my condolences to all who’ve lost a beloved companion. Sending love and blessings to you all.
Let’s spread kindness.
