On my flight from San Diego to Nashville today, there was a 96-year-old woman sitting next to me who hadn’t flown in 15 years. For her birthday, she wanted to visit her family in Kansas City, but she was scared of flying. During takeoff, she asked a man sitting beside her to hold her hand, and she hugged him again when the plane hit some turbulence.

This kind man happily took her hand, let her hold on, calmed her by talking to her, and explained what was happening. He just knew what to do to help her the whole flight. He even helped her stand up to go to the restroom and watched her carefully walk down the aisle. I couldn’t stop smiling as I saw him comfort her.

This man was like her flight angel. He held her bag, helped her get off the plane, and into a wheelchair. When she got confused and couldn’t find her daughter (she called her sister), he stayed with her until she was able to reunite with her daughter.

I walked away with happy tears, so grateful for people like this kind man. She was so thankful she wanted him to have her flight pretzels. 😇

Hats off to you, sir, for your kindness and compassion toward a stranger. I’ve never been so moved on a flight before. This made my week. 💜
