THIS BOY!
A couple of weeks ago, I was feeling teary when Carson came in and asked me what was wrong. I read him a Facebook post about a mother looking for a date for her 16-year-old daughter, Izzie, who has special needs and wanted to go to prom. Carson immediately said, “Mom, I will do it!”
And so, he did! The day before the prom, we went to decorate Izzie’s room and let her meet Carson. Then, he took her to prom, where she was crowned Dutchess. Afterward, he stayed in her room for over an hour, just watching cartoons with her. This boy is so tender!
Izzie is such a sweet girl. She is non-verbal, uses a wheelchair, has a feeding tube, and can’t communicate much. But there were moments when her eyes met Carson’s, and she lit up with a huge smile, just like the 4th of July… and he did too!
We are all more alike than we are different. In a world full of choices, choose kindness!
This is just a story about a boy I am lucky to call “son!” He makes me want to be better and do better.
