This is John. He was my Uber driver when I went to the airport yesterday.
He asked why I was traveling, and I told him it was for work. Then he asked if I was about 28 years old. I told him I was 27.
John shared that his daughter had passed away suddenly when she was 29. He tried to save her, but it was too late. His voice was full of pain as he said, “I wish I could’ve done more. Why couldn’t I bring her back?”
He also told me that he was holding his son when his own father passed away.
After a moment, he looked at me and said, “I’m so sorry for talking about all of this. I just haven’t met anyone as kind and understanding as you. You made me feel like I had someone to talk to.”
He gently patted my arm and added, “Please don’t let the world change you. Keep smiling, keep being kind. You’ve shown me how much kindness a stranger can offer. You never know what someone is going through behind their smile. Thank you, sweet girl.”
Be kind to others. Always. Show compassion, listen, ask how someone’s day is going, smile at strangers, say hello at the store, and do small acts of kindness every day. Even a simple conversation with an Uber driver might mean more than you realize. ❤️
