This morning, during the first period

This morning, during the first period, my kids could tell that something was wrong. When they asked why I wasn’t acting like usual, I told them that my wife’s father had passed away this weekend, and I was worried about her. They all said they were sorry, and then we started working.

At dismissal, while I was giving hugs and high fives to my 2nd-period class, one little girl put something in my hand. She said, “This is for your wife. I know it was really expensive when my daddy died, and I don’t really want ice cream today anyways.”

It made me realize that we could learn a lot from kids. They are so kind and thoughtful, and I wish the world would pay more attention to them.
