Woman Helps Injured Man After Bike Accident
“I met someone today. His name is Marcus.
During my lunch break, I suddenly had a craving for Slim Jims, so I headed out to get some. On my way, I saw a man lying in the road next to a bicycle. Cars were just driving around him. Without thinking, I pulled over and ran to help.
Marcus was struggling to keep his head off the hot pavement. He told me his neck and back hurt, and his foot looked broken—it was caught in the spokes of his bike. He had been hit by a car. I sat beside him, letting him rest his head on my leg. I kept his head still with one hand and used the other to block the sun from his eyes.
When the paramedics and fire rescue arrived, I stayed with him. I even helped them put on his neck brace and move him onto the backboard.
Before they took him away, I grabbed his backpack and told the EMT that his mom had called. I asked them to let her know which hospital they were taking him to.
My coworker originally took this photo to show our boss in case we were late getting back to work. I hadn’t planned on keeping it, but now I love it. It reminds me how natural it felt to help and how calm I was able to keep him. It also makes me even more excited about joining the fire academy.
So, Marcus—if you ever see this—I hope you’re doing okay and healing quickly.”
